Baoyu Throws Away His Jade
This famous passage involves Jia Baoyu smashing his jade out of frustration when he realizes that Lin Daiyu has no jade. Her lack of a piece of jade causes Jia Baoyu to lose his faith in its ability and power, causing Grandmother Jia to react quickly. As usual, this passage is absolutely filled with symbolism, and it can be easy to misunderstand.
