The question of religion comes up time and time again in Dream of the Red Chamber.

We saw it come up yesterday, actually.

Even the title of that poem, the Impermanence Lament (恨無常), has some pretty strong Buddhist connotations.

The question, though, is whether we should think of this as a “pro-Buddhist” poem, or whether it’s just a lament about the state of the world.
