I don’t find your progress slow at all. In Chinese we say 「慢工出細活」. Anyone following your project would understand how difficult it is (it won’t be easy to translate it to modern Mandarin either!) and appreciate your dedication. I’d rather wait ten years for it than seeing a sloppy work that omitting sections, twisting words or lacking key annotations.

She’s called「二丫头」probably because she’s the second oldest daughter, like in some Chinese families parents would call their oldest child 「老大」and the second oldest 「老二」. I’m not sure “girl No.2” would be the right translation.

I don't think there's anything deep about it. To me it's quite natural that a 12yo boy shows interest in a young lady completely different from those in R/NGM. It's consistent with his character.
