Purity Culture
Yesterday’s poem feels like it could have been written in 2025.
Criticizing “purity culture” in all of its forms is fairly popular these days. It’s pretty clear from articles like this that the inflexible insistence on “purity” and “virtue” has done damage to many otherwise healthy young people.
And I’m betting that you never thought you’d read something like this in an 18th century Chinese text.
