This is where the poetry is going to become pretty difficult to understand. Jia Baoyu’s first poem is a big reference to bamboo, though it’s also used to describe a particular character in the book. We’ll talk more today about the allusions to bamboo and the reason why Jia Baoyu has composed this poem in this particular way.
