Wang Xifeng The Godfather
If you’re a fan of crime movies, this passage should strike you as familiar:
鳳姐笑道：「親戚們不大走動，都疏遠了。知道的呢，說你們棄嫌我們，不肯常來；不知道的那起小人，還只當我們眼裡沒人似的。」
“When relatives don’t visit each other often, they naturally grow distant,” said Xifeng with a smile. “If people were to know about our relationship, they would think that you look down on us and don’t feel like visiting often. But then there are the ignorant people, those who don’t understand the way things are, would would assume that we are the ones with no regard for anyone else.”
Wang Xifeng isn’t making Granny Liu an offer she doesn’t refuse, of course. But she’s acting in a powerful way that really is reminiscent of Vito Corleone.
