Why Wait?
Though I love painting myself up as an expert (who doesn’t?), there are times when I don’t entirely understand why certain things happen the way they do.
We read this passage yesterday:
說著，一陣心酸，向鳳姐兒說道：「你們娘兒們好了一場，明日大初一，過了明日，你再看看他去。」
Her heart started aching as she said this. She turned to Wang Xifeng. “You have always been so close to Qin Keqing,” she said. “Tomorrow is the first day of the new month. Go see her again the day after tomorrow.”
The obvious question here, of course, is why in the world Grandmother Jia would want Wang Xifeng to delay seeing the ill Qin Keqing by a day.
