Why Wang Xifeng Is Powerful

I’ve had a few questions so far about why Wang Xifeng has her position in the family. There have also been questions about why she cares so much about who Jia Baoyu winds up marrying in the end.

We haven’t seen a ton of examples of the disagreements between Wang Xifeng and Lin Daiyu yet. However, we did see hints that the two do not get along back when they first met:

We’ll see more examples of this as we go along. First, though, you really need to understand why the young Wang Xifeng was able to get her position of power in the first place.

Note that not all of this is explained on the Wikipedia page for Dream of the Red Chamber. Also, some of the things explained on that page are actually not really relevant to the story. I’ll go slowly to help you understand.
