Hi,

I think, here is a letter "g" lacking:

"When Jia Zheng and the others read the poems, they praised them without ceasing. Jia Zhen then composed an ode of his own about Jia Yuanchun’s return home."

In the chinese text

賈政等看了,都稱頌不已。賈政又進歸省頌。

its two times Jia ZhenG

Hi,

I’d like to add something to my previous comment about "Red and Green" from Sep 06, 2026. At the time, I deliberately didn't write everything out so as not to spoil the story for those who want to read the text at your pace.

It becomes clear now that Lin Daiyu didn't want to shine through the sheer volume of her poems, but rather through the quality of her work. Yet she knew she would never receive praise from Yuanchun—who, in fact, thwarted her ambitions.

She *did* receive praise, though only she and Jia Baoyu knew about it: her poem was singled out as the best, yet Yuanchun and the (limited) audience believed it had been written by Jia Baoyu!

Yuanchun is a Confucian hardliner; she would never praise Lin Daiyu if other family members—or those loyal to Confucian ideals—were also in the running.
